Vengeance. All the Rocks wanted was vengeance from the Clarke Rams and to spoil Clarke's homecoming. Last year the Rams spoiled the Rocks' chances of furthering their playoff hunt. With a home field advantage verses a 5 seed rather than a 3 seed the Rams changed East Rockaway's 2009 season. This year, that wasn't gonna happen. The Rocks came out on top scoring first and ending the first half with a 20-7 lead. Things got tense when starting QB Andrew Bashford and starting All County Lineman Doug Draude came out in two consecutive plays. Draude returned a play later, while Bashford sat out the rest of the game with a twisted ankle. TE and backup QB, junior Sean Bohan stepped up. Bohan had 57 yards rushing with two touchdowns on three carries. One being a third and short QB sneak in which Bohan exhibited his incredible athletic ability breaking away and running for a touchdown. Fullback Anthony Tesoriero led a physical blocking game, while scoring 2 touchdowns. RB Mike Castellano ran for a career high 241 yards while the whole team was unstoppable on defense. Nick Ulip lead the team with 9 tackles and Mikey Lores contributed with 6 tackles and sack. East Rockaway's now 3-1, third place in conference 4. The Rocks continue to prove that they are a competitor in the Nassau County hunt.
This week they take on the number one team in Nassau Conference IV, unbeaten Roosevelt. The Rough Riders (4-0) come off a 28-20 win in overtime against the Floral Park Knights (2-2) who East Rockaway beat. Each time Roosevelt and East Rockaway meet, the Vito family has a "reunion". This is because Roosevelt coach Joe Vito is uncle to East Rockaway coach Dan Vito. Many Vito's attended East Rockaway High School including Joe, who still resides in E-Rock. Both coaches have established each program, respectively. Roosevelt's quick and athletic running game is run by RB Donte Colter, who is in the hunt for the Thorpe Award and QB Erin Parker. The Rough Riders have had close games with their past two opponents, Cold Spring Harbor and Floral Park. The Rocks are sure to knock some heads, can they be the team to knock off number 1 Roosevelt? Come Support your East Rockaway Rocks, Saturday at Roosevelt! Kickoff's scheduled for 3:00pm, this is a game NOT to miss!
